Dance Mom Life👯‍♀️👯‍♀️

Updated: Mar 31, 2019

When Miss A expressed an interest in joining the competitive dance team at her dance studio, I had NO idea what to expect! Although I still feel like a rookie, I'd love to pass on a few tips that I have learned along the way!

Here are a few of my favorite things that make life a little bit easier during the competition season:

First up, A Dream Duffel bag. This bag will definitely be an investment as it is expensive! We purchased one for Arabelle last year and it we have used it at every competition since. I love that it has a pop up garment rack for the costumes and a ton of pockets so that you can organize all of your gear. I definitely recommend checking your local BST sites for a used one, and Discount Dance for a discounted bag! We have the medium size (easily fits our 5 costumes plus snacks, accessories, shoes, and a change of clothes) and ours came with a pop up folding stool that we occasionally bring.

Dream Duffels come in various sizes, but all are BIG😂!

Secondly, I highly recommend the Closet Trolley Garment Bags for your costumes. The first set of garment bags I ordered (Amazon) were adult sized and were way too long! I love the fact that the Closet Trolley bags come in multiple sizes with clear plastic and zippered pockets on the outside. These pockets are perfect for costume accessories (gloves, hair clips, etc). When the costumes are hanging, you can easily make sure you have all the required "pieces"!

Ok, this recommendation will take you back....I recommend buying a Caboodle! Yep, you read that right! Not only can you separate all the performance makeup, you can include the hairpieces and the earrings in a special compartmentalized cubby! I purchased this caboodle at Target and keep it in her dream duffle so that we are always ready to go.

Next up: Leggings with Pockets! Alright, you know I am partial on this recommendation, but my favorite leggings are Zyia Active Pocket Light n Tight Capris! The quality is on par with Athleta and Lululemon, but for a much better price. They come in various colors and lengths and I have worn them to every.single.competition. The pockets come in handy for bobby pins and cell phones. They are intentionally compressive, so consider sizing up! *Zyia leggings also come in children's sizes (you can match your mini-me😊👯‍♀️)!

My final recommendation is for the hair😊. I found this finishing stick (mascara wand type hair gel) that has been so great for smoothing those baby fly-aways! I've had never seen it before, but after using it for a season, it has earned a permanent home in my caboodle!

I hope this helps a few dance moms out! For my seasoned dance moms, what did I forget? What are your competition necessities?

I'll leave you with the videos from the 2019 award winning Mini Majestics! Enjoy!!
