F45 Life 🏋️‍♂️

I joined a gym; I gained a family.

About a year ago, I decided I was ready for a new fitness routine. The January 2018 Dopey challenge (consists of a 5k, 10k, 1/2 marathon, and a full marathon in 4 days) required long distance running almost every day of the week for a year. In March/April of 2018, F45 opened in my neighborhood and offered a two week trial. The timing worked out perfectly, because I was looking give my running shoes a break! After the first class, I was hooked and here is why:

No mirrors and no judgement. Why do we feel the need to be "in shape" before going to the gym? I can tell you, that is not the F45 way. You do not need to fit a certain mold to attend an F45 class. If you need to modify, you modify. If you need support, a coach or teammate will help you. To be honest, because the training is interval based, you tend to focus on your individual exercise and do not have the time to watch and judge each other!

With one of my favorite trainers!

Every day is different. F45 Training combines elements of High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), Circuit Training, and Functional Training. Tuesday and Thursday are generally "resistance" days, where Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday have a stronger "cardio" element. The screens guide you through the exercises for each station. I really enjoy the fact that I don't always know exactly what to expect, and appreciate the challenge in trying new exercises!

Team mentality. F45 builds a camaraderie like no other gym I've ever attended. We celebrate each other's accomplishments and provide support when "life happens" outside of class. I have never witnessed such a phenomenon, outside of a religious setting. I have developed true friendships that I would not have otherwise!

Results!!!! Although I am a work in progress, here are my personal results from July 2018 to January 2019. I thought I was in decent shape when I started, but I feel so much stronger than I have ever been. Even though I was 1.1 lbs heavier, I lost 1.4% body fat and gained 2.4 lbs of lean mass!

If you are looking to change up your routine, give F45 a try. Most gyms offer a one or two week trail (membership pricing varies by gym). Click here to find an F45 Gym near you (and if there isn't one, by golly, you should OPEN one!😂)
