🎿 Heavenly Ski Resort, South Lake Tahoe

Dave wanted to ski, I wanted to go somewhere warm.......so we compromised! Part two of our spring break was spent at Heavenly Ski Resort!

Trip Details:

- Flight: SW flight from Houston Hobby to Vegas to Reno. There are nonstop United flights from IAH, but SW was significantly cheaper for us because of the companion pass. Overall, easy peasy!

- Shuttle: Booked the South Tahoe Airporter from Reno to the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel ($29.75 Adult and $16.75 Child). This was about an hour and fifteen minute trip. We chose not to rent a car because the parking at the Marriott Grand Residence Club was $30 a night😳). The shuttle was fantastic! It was about an hour and fifteen minute ride on a large charter bus with reclining seats and power/charging docks in each seat. One negative-it did not stop at the Marriott- the closest spot to the Marriott Grand Residence Club was the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel. Although the walk was only about 5 minutes, I am sure we looked rather comical dragging 6 backs, and 5 backpacks (with helmets dangling of course)!

- Accommodations: Marriott Grand Residence Club. First of all, we are not vacation club members. We booked this reservation through Marriott, just like a typical reservation. We reserved a three room residence that included a King bed and two double beds, separated by a kitchen and living room with a pull out sofa (a really nice one with a memory foam mattress!) This set up worked perfectly for our family. If I had one complaint, it would be that the units are a bit dated, but you can tell that they are trying to cover it up nicely (ex. updated hardware on the doors, new paint, etc). The kitchen area was FULLY stocked (even a crockpot on the counter, lol).

Best of all, the location cannot be beat! We were able to walk across the street to the grocery store (remember to bring bags or you will have to buy them😅). Also, not once did we wish we had a car! There are plenty of restaurants, shopping, and even a movie theater, all within walking distance🙌

- Itinerary: We enjoyed daily breakfast in our room (Chex and waffles☺️). Our family has affectionately named Dave the "Ski Sergeant" and he does not like to miss first chair (which we rarely make because getting three kids ready to ski is nearly impossible🙈). We also packed our own lunches (easy to do with the grocery store and subway across the street!). I despise paying $20 for burgers that the kids order and take three bites out of!

All skiers must take the gondola up to ski Heavenly (from the resort area). There is another lift on the other side of the mountain, but we would have to drive there:). We skied until about 2:30 on both days because I have heard the line for the gondola ride down can reach up to 75 mins! YIKES!

After skiing we enjoyed the pool and spa on one day and the ice skating rink on the second day. The ice skating rink was about $15 for the entire day and was adjacent to the Starbucks!

Overall we had a fabulous trip to Heavenly and would recommend it. The mountain was a bit on the smaller side, so I don't think we could have spent too much longer there. Unfortunately, our trip got cut a day short because of the grounding of the 737 Max 8 aircraft. We ended up having to rent a car at the Harrahs casino in order to drive to San Francisco😭😭. After a super stressful drive (Arabelle got sick 🤢 crossing the bay bridge in the back seat), we made it back home to H-town!
